WHEREAS, The history of NDEAM traces back to 1945, when it began as a weeklong recognition of people with physical disabilities.
WHEREAS, Later, NDEAM was expanded to a full month and evolved to include all people with disabilities, including those with mental health conditions and other nonobvious disabilities, acknowledging the importance of increasing their access to employment.
WHEREAS, Workplaces welcoming of the talents of all people, including people with disabilities, including those with mental health conditions and other nonobvious disabilities, are a critical part of our efforts to build a strong economy; and
WHEREAS, Activities during this month will reinforce the value and talent people with disabilities, including those with mental health conditions and other nonobvious disabilities, add to our workplaces and communities and affirm [city’s/county’s/state’s] commitment to ensuring that all people, including disabled workers, have the opportunity to find meaningful work.

As you promote NDEAM through your channels, here are a few tips to help ensure that your posts are accessible to everyone.
Include on your profile page contact options, such as an accessible “Contact Us” form, toll-free phone number, or email address for a person who can assist with questions.
Write social media posts in clear, understandable plain language. Avoid jargon and unfamiliar abbreviations. Spell out acronyms.
When using multiword hashtags, capitalize the first letter of each word for clarity and ease of reading (#LikeThisExample).
Provide closed captioning for YouTube videos. You can do this automatically or add and edit captions manually.
Add captions to Facebook video posts. Make sure that captions are turned on for live videos.
Make available full photo captions or transcripts of videos and audio if necessary.
Refrain from using emojis excessively in social media posts or avoid them altogether.
Describe your photos in the caption of social media posts on Instagram.
Turn on image description settings in X and compose descriptive text to make images accessible. Note that this setting does not work with GIFs.
Add or edit alternative text descriptions to images posted on Facebook.
If possible, test your post with assistive technology before sharing it.
